I recommend taking digestive enzymes during my Program to make digestion easier so that the body can move easily through digestion, get the most nutrients out of the food and then get on with the work of detoxifying and cleansing the body.

Digestive enzymes can help ensure that food is properly broken down. Today it is believed that many people have a “leaky gut”. If partially digested proteins pass through the gut lining, they can trigger the immune system and lead to allergies, auto-immune issues and at the very least, inflammation.

As we age, it is believed that we produce less enzymes or that the bile ducts become congested so that the ones we do produce have a harder time getting to work.

Acid reflux can result from either low stomach acid or enzyme insufficiency or both. I had one client with severe, painful reflux who was taking high doses of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI’s). PPI’s are a group of drugs whose main action is a severe and long-lasting reduction in gastric acid production. If the reflux is caused by low stomach acid or enzyme deficiency, then the PPI’s can cause more damage in the long run – only temporarily calming the symptoms but not getting to the source of the problem.

I told my client to try taking large doses of probiotics and digestive enzymes (2 of each 3 times per day). She reported back that within 24 hours she felt like a completely new person. And she was able to go off the drugs when she also cleaned up her diet.

Another client had severe flatulence to the point that she said it was affecting her marriage. This was a very attractive woman who ate healthy but something was amiss with her digestion. Her problem also quickly cleared up with the dynamic duo of probiotics and digestive enzymes. To learn more about probiotics, read here.

Digestive Enzymes are helpful for:

  • gas
  • bloating
  • leaky gut
  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Crohn’s disease
  • ulcerative colitis
  • diverticulitis
  • nutrient malabsorption
  • diarrhea
  • acid reflux
  • constipation

Digestive enzymes can take a load off of the stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and small intestine by helping break down difficult-to-digest proteins, sugars and fats.

Every body is different so this is something you must try. I have noticed that some brands of enzymes work better for me. Some even give me a stomach ache. This could be because the capsule is made of something my tummy doesn’t like. So don’t give up if at first you don’t find the perfect one. Try again. Look for a full-spectrum enzyme blend to cover most foods. I have always have good luck with Enzymedica Digest Gold but there are lots of good brands.

It is also helpful to drink celery juice and eat celery to improve digestion and improve bile flow. I drink a 16 ounce glass of celery juice every morning!
